Can I drink alcohol during my treatment?

Why moderation makes sense, and what to watch for if you also use diabetes medication.

Written by Nick

Alcohol can worsen stomach and bowel complaints, such as nausea or diarrhoea. Alcohol also contains calories. It can affect your appetite, your food choices and your fat burning.

So drink no alcohol, or as little as possible.

Take care if you use diabetes medication

Alcohol can lower your blood sugar. Do you also use metformin? Then that effect is stronger. In that case do not drink on an empty stomach.

Troubled by stomach complaints?

Eat smaller portions. Avoid fatty or heavily spiced food. Do not eat just before going to sleep.
