How does the dosage increase for Ozempic work?

Information on the dosage and buildup of Ozempic

Written by Nick

Quick overview

The dosage of Ozempic is gradually increased to allow your body to adjust to the medication. In most cases, this happens automatically based on your treatment plan.

1. Standard dosage schedule

The increase occurs step-by-step each month (unless agreed otherwise with your practitioner):

  • Month 1 (Weeks 1–4): You start with a pen for 0.25 mg weekly injections. This is an introductory dose.

  • Month 2 (Weeks 5–8): The dose automatically increases to 0.5 mg. You will receive a new pen for this.

  • Month 3 (From week 9 onward): You receive a pen for 1 mg weekly injections. This is the maximum dosage we supply.

Prefer a different schedule? If you wish to remain on a lower dose for longer or adjust your schedule, please consult our medical team first.

2. What to expect? (No results yet?)

It is completely normal to notice little to no change in weight or appetite during the first few weeks, especially on the initial 0.25 mg starter dose.

  • Adjustment period: The initial dose is primarily intended to allow your body to safely adapt to the active ingredient and minimize side effects.

  • Patience: Effectiveness increases as the dosage is built up according to the schedule. Always follow the instructions provided by your practitioner.
