How do I store my medication during my holiday?

Storage guidelines for your medication while travelling

Written by Maarten

Proper storage is essential for your medication to remain effective. Below are the key guidelines for each situation.

On the plane
Always keep your pen in your hand luggage. The temperature in the cargo hold can drop too low, which can damage the medication. A frozen pen is unusable and must be discarded.

During your trip and at your destination

  • An unopened pen must be stored between 2°C and 8°C (refrigerator temperature)

  • An opened pen can be stored at room temperature, up to a maximum of 30°C

    • Ozempic: usable for up to 6 weeks after opening at room temperature

    • Mounjaro: usable for up to 4 weeks after opening at room temperature

  • Never store the pen in direct sunlight or in a hot car

  • Use an insulated cool bag or Frio bag for extra protection on hot days — don't place the pen directly on an ice pack, as freezing damages the medication

How do you know if the pen is still okay to use? Check that the liquid is clear and colourless. Do you notice cloudiness, discolouration, or particles? In that case, don't use the pen and contact us at [email protected].
